School support & integration assistance

Key term: . Some children need special support at nursery and school. A dedicated support worker is there in lessons, at break time and on trips – so that your child can take part just like everyone else.

What we actually do

The school support worker helps your child …

  • on the way to school, on the bus or in a taxi
  • in lessons, for example with understanding tasks
  • at break time, in PE, on trips and school journeys
  • in contact with others and in difficult situations
  • with basic personal care if needed – for example with eating, getting dressed and undressed or going to the toilet
  • with security and trust through a dedicated key person
  • in close coordination with parents, teachers and the youth welfare office

Questions about this service

What you should know beforehand

For a mental health disability – such as autism or ADHD – at the youth welfare office (Jugendamt). For an intellectual or physical disability at the integration assistance agency, usually the social welfare office (Sozialamt). We advise you and guide you through the application.

We agree the tasks with you and the school and look for a support worker who suits your child. After that, we observe in class, hold regular review meetings and stay in touch with the school and the authorities.

As well as the head of department, we have an education professional who looks after cooperation with parents. So you don’t have to sort everything out through the school support worker.
